  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 200g gram flour (besan)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder
  • Water (as needed)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Here's a simple recipe for onion pakodas:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add gram flour, red chilli powder, and salt to taste.
  2. Mix the ingredients well.
  3. Gradually add water to the mixture and mix well until it forms a thick batter. Make sure that the batter should be used for lightly coat the onion slices.
  4. Add chopped onion slices and ensuring that the onion slices are well coated with the prepared paste.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai over a medium flame.
  6. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the oil one after another, but avoid overcrowding. You can shape them into small balls or flat patties as desired.
  7. Fry your pakodas in batches until they turn golden brown and crispy, flipping them occasionally for even frying.
  8. Remove the fried pakodas from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  10. Serve the onion pakodas hot with chutney or tomato ketchup.
